Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Vivo Fold5: Who Wins the Fold War?

Samsung Electronics introduced its latest foldable model, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, on Monday as global sales of foldable smartphones face their first slowdown since 2019.
Industry data show that the foldable segment grew rapidly after the debut of the original Galaxy Fold in 2019 but is expected to plateau or decline by the end of 2025. Counterpoint Research and other analysts cite high prices and limited consumer uptake as key factors.
Against this backdrop, Samsung has trimmed the Z Fold 7’s profile and weight while preserving its signature book-like design. The device now measures under 9 millimeters when closed and weighs 24 grams less than its predecessor. The core hardware features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, up to 16 gigabytes of RAM and up to one terabyte of internal storage.
Samsung retained its 200-megapixel main camera, supplementing it with two 50-megapixel sensors. The secondary touchscreen serves everyday tasks, while unfolding the phone reveals an 8-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 1968×2184 pixels and a 120-hertz refresh rate. Peak brightness is listed at 2,600 nits.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 runs Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 8 interface, which is optimized for split-screen multitasking and Android apps in a tablet layout. Battery capacity is 4,400 milliampere-hours, smaller than the 6,000 mAh pack in the newly launched Vivo X Fold5. Charging speeds also lag behind Chinese competitors.
Vivo, Oppo and other brands have entered the foldable market this year, with the Vivo X Fold5 leading in sustained battery performance and camera benchmarks. Their devices start at lower price points than Samsung’s series, which begins at Rs 174,999 (about $2,100).
